Hey there, friends! Can you believe September has come and gone? You know what they say, about time flying and all. I definitely had a lot of fun (and let’s be real…more than enough stress). So, let me catch you up on all the happenings and give you a sneak peek into what's in store for October.
First and foremost, I'm thrilled to announce the launch of my brand-new website, macroswithmaureen.com. It's your one-stop shop for all things related to my services, including the chance to join the waitlist for my next live Shift program starting in January. Plus, for those early birds getting started on holiday shopping, I've got gift cards available – the perfect way to give the gift of health and fitness.
In family news, September was all about embracing those fall vibes. My son's football season is in full swing, my girls are loving their gymnastics classes, and we've settled into a comfortable school routine. Sailor, our Portuguese Water Dog puppy, just turned 6 months old! She's become my favorite reason for getting my daily dose of Vitamin D and my motivation for morning walks.
One of the highlights of my month was a much-needed girls' weekend in Charlottesville, VA. My girlfriends and I had a blast exploring charming wineries, strolling around the town, indulging in delicious food, and sharing so many belly-aching laughs that it hurt—in the best way possible. It was the perfect recharge for the soul.
Now, looking ahead to October, I have so many fun things planned. Mr. Macros and I are counting down the days to see one of our all-time favorite bands, the Zac Brown Band. Concert nights are always a blast, filled with great music and even better company. And for a dose of nature, we'll be heading to Cacapon State Park for a bit of cabin "camping" – the wild and wonderful West Virginia awaits!
On the nutrition front, I've been trying out the Mediterranean Diet, and I'm absolutely loving it. Don't worry, I'm still tracking my macros, but now my plate is loaded with more vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, legumes, whole grains, fish, and poultry. Red meat takes a backseat in this delicious adventure. It's not a huge shift from my usual eating habits, but the emphasis on family and friends during meals has me sold. There are some incredible health benefits too, from reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke to preventing cognitive decline and more.
And speaking of family, that's a big focus for me right now as I try to balance a full-time 9-5, nutrition coaching, 3 children with very different needs, and having fun with my husband. I've been reminded of the joy of slowing down during mealtimes, enjoying food with family and friends, and savoring those moments. So, count me in for more of that!
Cut Update: I'm in week 8 of my cut and let me be real with you – I didn't even think about tracking macros during my girls' trip. I fully embraced the Mediterranean lifestyle and cherished every minute of friendship, food, and conversation. So, what's the plan now? Simple – I'm going back to tracking and my usual eating patterns, without a hint of shame or guilt. Because, as I always say, "memories > macros."
S
o, here's to a fantastic October ahead, filled with music, nature, and lots of delicious Mediterranean-inspired meals. Let's make the most of it, savor every moment, and remember that life is all about balance. Cheers to the adventures that await!

I recently started getting Daily Harvest food boxes and I'm obsessed! I held out for so long because the foods aren't as high protein as I usually like. But I've figured out that I just need to add protein powder to the smoothies, and fish or chicken to the entrées and I can easily hit my protein goal. Plus everything has been so good and it makes meal planning and grocery shopping a cinch! Use my code and get $65 off of your first box!
As someone who suffered with IBS for decades before learning what an impact my diet had on my stomach, I was used to never feeling quite right. Now that I've made major changes, I don't have to take any medication but I do love these supplements from Thorne that keep my gut health on the right track.
Say hello to your new fall wardrobe at my favorite place to shop! Quince offers quality, luxury clothes, jewelry, and homegoods for a fraction of the price. Their values are sustainability, quality, and affordability. I love everything I've bought, and $50 cashmere...umm, yes please!
I am currently reading The Midwife of Auschwitz. This is heavy and depressing, and my fingers are crossed that it has some sort of happiness at the end. Historical Fiction is my favorite genre, specially WWII, so I read everything I can about this time period. Next on my list is Amazing grace Adams, by Fran Littlewood and I'm hoping for more of an uplifting read.
I have listened to so many podcasts recently. To name a few: The Deadly Diocese, Can I tell you a Secret, A Very British Cult, and In The Dark.
What are you listening to? I'm always looking for something new for my walks, and I'd love your recs!
Travel around the world with author Dan Buettner to discover five unique communities where people live extraordinarily long and vibrant lives. This series on Netflix is so fascinating! It totally has me wanting to live to 100 and more importantly, make changes now that will help for so many years to come. One common thread is close connection to community, friends and family. The extrovert in me loves this! This is also where I first learned about the Mediterranean Diet.
