Hi Friends!
Today, I want to challenge the way we think about food and our bodies. It's time to shift our mindset and embrace a positive, sustainable approach to reaching our health goals.
Last week Natalie Barnett @nataliebarnett joined my Shift weekly live coaching session as a guest speaker.
If you don’t follow her on Instagram yet, make sure you do! She’s a business and nutrition coach who also specializes in mindset.
Natalie shared the following mindset shifts with us and emphasized that our mindset shapes our actions, choices, and ultimately our results.
When we embrace a positive and empowering mindset, the possibilities are endless!
Mindset Shifts to make NOW!
I work out because I hate my body ➡️ I work out because I love my body
🏋️♀️🏋️♀️ I started viewing exercise as an act of self-care, rather than a punishment. This mental shift allowed me to approach my health goals and workouts with positive energy (even at 5:00 am!). Find a form of movement that you love and lean in. Tennis, pickle ball, swimming, dancing...whatever it is, make sure you love doing it and you won't quit.
Food is the enemy; it makes me fat ➡️ Food is fuel
🥗🍎Instead of thinking about food as the enemy or a source of guilt, view it as fuel. Every meal is an opportunity to nourish ourselves and make choices that support our well-being. Stop saying, "I was bad," when you've eaten something. Enjoy it and move on. Make your next choice a good choice.
I don't have time ➡️ I make time
⏰⏰ Rather than making excuses about how you don’t have the time to work out or cook healthy meals, do a time audit on yourself and see what you’re really spending your time on. Be honest. Maybe 30 minutes of scrolling can be replaced with a 30-minute walk or time spent making a healthy meal instead of running for takeout...again.
Cheat meal ➡️ Sometimes meal
🙅♀️🙅♀️Having a “cheat meal” gives a negative/guilty connotation to enjoying the foods we love. Foods are not good or bad, and eating what you love is not cheating. Incorporate treats into your daily plan. If it won’t fit, have it sometimes and it becomes a “sometimes” food…no negativity.
I have to earn my food ➡️ I deserve to feel energized, strong and healthy
📢📢Repeat after me…YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EARN FOOD. We eat food, we do not earn it. You deserve to fuel your body with food to feel energized, strong & healthy. If you work out because you think that allows you to eat whatever you want, I'm here to tell you that's not how it works. Sorry not sorry! Workout for cardiovascular health, muscle gains, mental health, stress relief...and eat to fuel those workouts. (Refer to mind shifts 1 & 2 ☝)
Are you ready to embrace a new mindset?
When you change your mind, you can change your life 💪💙
